Snuglin heated cushion

An interesting new company decided to send me a sample of their brand new warming product…on the exact same day that our boiler broke down! Timely indeed. And so it was on quite a cool April evening that I took a good look at the Snuglin and put it through its paces.

Snuglin heated cusionSimply put, the Snuglin is an electrically heated cushion with a pocket to pop your cold hands in. A small convector heater is safely housed inside the fleecy cushion and some sensibly long cables power it from the nearest plug (no need for extension cables!). The product’s website assures me that it is remarkably cheap to run, helping to keep my gas (or in our case, oil) bill in check.

Within a couple of minutes the heater starts to provide heat inside the cushion and leaving it on your lap, a glow of warmth certainly starts to develop around you. Of course for those of us with cold hands the bonus is to pop them into the fleecy pocket and allow them to gently warm – a cosy feeling.

Once the Snuglin had warmed my cold hands a little, my cold feet became more Snuglin heated cushionnoticeable by contrast! And so I creatively tried slotting my feet into the Snuglin (this is NOT recommended by the manufacturer!!) There is certainly potential for those that are determined enough (or cold enough) however I think that we ultimately require a foot warming Snuglin designed specifically for this purpose. Note to manufacturer :-)

So there you have it. A novel cushion that focuses on warmth first and foremost. The £54.95 price tag might stop it being an impulse purchase for some but there is much pleasure to be had in a warm pad settled on your lap when the temperature has dropped.

A variety of traditional and more contemporary designs make the Snuglin heated cushion a possibility for all ages. My first choice would be to buy one for older family members that do a lot of sitting, perhaps in front of the TV or the computer. Personally, I move around too much to keep a Snuglin by my side but I can certainly see the point and do feel the need for further product testing on future chilly evenings…

Take a good look at the Snuglin by visiting the Snuglin website. Remember to mention Cold Hands Cold Feet!

Mohair socks

I promised to tell you my discovery about mohair socks and so I will keep you in suspense no longer. If you have cold feet, perhaps due to poor blood circulation or due to having Raynaud’s Syndrome, you need to give careful thought to the type of socks that you wear throughout the year in order to keep your cold feet as warm as possible to minimise any damage.

Angora goat mohair socksIf you have read my earlier posts you will know that I love warm cashmere socks. They have truly helped my cold feet and more pairs are certainly on my shopping list. However, there is another type of warm socks that might be a serious contender here. Mohair socks.

Mohair comes from the wool of Angora goats (see right) and it appears to have some tremendous benefits where socks are concerned.

  • Mohair socks are warm socks. A natural insulator, they will keep your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer
  • With a luxurious feel to them, mohair socks are reported to be incredibly comfortable, even if you have sensitive skin
  • Mohair socks keep your feet dry due to great “wicking properties
  • Naturally antibacterial, mohair socks wash really well in the machine
  • They are extremely durable, retain their shape and have tremendous elasticity.

Mohair socks appear to be the perfect sock and their medical benefits are reported widely for those of us with poor blood circulation or indeed Raynaud’s.

So, I took a look at some stockists to see where one might start. I began at my favourite sock shop right now, The Sock Shop (they do lovely cashmere socks!). The following would be my choices:

1. Ladies mohair lightweight ribbed ankle socks:  51% mohair! £8.50 a pair

2. Ladies mohair knee high socks:  70% mohair (toasty). £15 a pair

3. Mens mohair cushioned sole knee high socks:  71% mohair. £12.50 a pair

4. Mens mohair lightweight ribbed ankle socks:  51% mohair. £8.50 a pair

Amazon are not a bad place to start for a mohair sock review either. As ever, prices are pretty good. Here is an initial pick for you:

All in one sleepsuits

This post might seem a bit mad. Bear with me, it’s good!

I’ve come across a small company in Northumberland, UK called The All In One Company that makes all in one sleepsuits . The difference here is that these are not just for children, they can be for adults too! Made to your own design (which you create on their fun website) you can even choose to have removable boots and fold back mittens to keep your hands and feet warm.

all in one sleepsuit for children and adultsIt is well known that to keep your hands and feet warmer, you also need to think about keeping the rest of your body warm too, so what better way than to jump into your “onesie” all in one sleepsuit of an evening and never feel cold again! Turn the heating down even, let your all in one sleepsuit keep you warm.

A few more facts to build a better picture for you. These things are made in fleece, all in one sleepsuits for adultstowelling or cotton jersey, you choose. An adult “onesie” will cost in the region of £50 depending on the design and a child all on one will set you back around £25. Whilst many people use them in and around the house, the website shows pictures of people wearing them on sailing boats, skiing holidays, camping…the list could be endless actually.

Made to order, this creative company is seeing sales explode, especially since the use of their all in one sleepsuits on Celebrity Big Brother this January. So get with the winter warming trend this year and design your own all in one sleepsuit!
