An interesting new company decided to send me a sample of their brand new warming product…on the exact same day that our boiler broke down! Timely indeed. And so it was on quite a cool April evening that I took a good look at the Snuglin and put it through its paces.
Simply put, the Snuglin is an electrically heated cushion with a pocket to pop your cold hands in. A small convector heater is safely housed inside the fleecy cushion and some sensibly long cables power it from the nearest plug (no need for extension cables!). The product’s website assures me that it is remarkably cheap to run, helping to keep my gas (or in our case, oil) bill in check.
Within a couple of minutes the heater starts to provide heat inside the cushion and leaving it on your lap, a glow of warmth certainly starts to develop around you. Of course for those of us with cold hands the bonus is to pop them into the fleecy pocket and allow them to gently warm – a cosy feeling.
Once the Snuglin had warmed my cold hands a little, my cold feet became more
noticeable by contrast! And so I creatively tried slotting my feet into the Snuglin (this is NOT recommended by the manufacturer!!) There is certainly potential for those that are determined enough (or cold enough) however I think that we ultimately require a foot warming Snuglin designed specifically for this purpose. Note to manufacturer
So there you have it. A novel cushion that focuses on warmth first and foremost. The £54.95 price tag might stop it being an impulse purchase for some but there is much pleasure to be had in a warm pad settled on your lap when the temperature has dropped.
A variety of traditional and more contemporary designs make the Snuglin heated cushion a possibility for all ages. My first choice would be to buy one for older family members that do a lot of sitting, perhaps in front of the TV or the computer. Personally, I move around too much to keep a Snuglin by my side but I can certainly see the point and do feel the need for further product testing on future chilly evenings…
Take a good look at the Snuglin by visiting the Snuglin website. Remember to mention Cold Hands Cold Feet!
If you have read my earlier posts you will know that I love warm cashmere socks. They have truly helped my cold feet and more pairs are certainly on my shopping list. However, there is another type of warm socks that might be a serious contender here. Mohair socks.
It is well known that to keep your hands and feet warmer, you also need to think about keeping the rest of your body warm too, so what better way than to jump into your “onesie”
towelling or cotton jersey, you choose. An adult “onesie” will cost in the region of £50 depending on the design and a child all on one will set you back around £25. Whilst many people use them in and around the house, the website shows pictures of people wearing them on sailing boats, skiing holidays, camping…the list could be endless actually.
